California Will Host the First Cannabis Competition in 2022

Lifestyle News - California Will Host the First Cannabis Competition in 2022

California Exhibition & State Fair in partnership with a Californian marketing agency, Cultivar Brands, will host the first state-sanctioned cannabis competition in 2022.

Although marijuana companies have already participated in numerous private competitions for years, this is the first time this kind of competition will be hosted by a state government agency.

Who will be able to participate? All licensed California cultivators can participate and fight for one of 77 awards (medals), including the Golden Bear trophy. The only thing they need to have is a perfect flower.

How will the winners get picked? Well, unlike the above-mentioned private cannabis competitions, this one will be based solely on science. Hence to determine the winner, SC Labs will test and score the flower through science-based analysis.

In other words, the judges will not be smoking your weed.

Furthermore, the flower will not be judged by its strains (Indica, Sativa, or Hybrid) but its chemistry, i.e., chemotype profiles. The entrants will be classified under three different groups: indoor-grown cannabis, outdoor, and mixed light.

The entries will be accepted between November 1, 2021, to March 30, 2022.

How much will it cost? The submission fee for an individual strain will cost $250. SC Labs will also provide all entrants with COAs and PhytoFacts® chemometric reports for a fee of $420.

Entering the competition with more than one strain comes with a discount: $225 (each) for 2 strains, $220 (each) for 3 strains, and $210 (each) for 4 strains.

As a result, the awards will be given to cultivators that have a flower with the highest concentrations of the qualifying compounds.

Additionally, the winners will be announced in May 2022, while the state fair will take place from 10–26 July 2022 at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento, California.

Overall, the main focus of the fair is to educate and demystify the stereotypes surrounding the cannabis plant. However, during the event, you won’t be able to buy or consume products that contain THC.
