JAY-Z Is Starting His Own Cannabis Brand
Shawn Corey Carter, professionally known under his alias JAY-Z, has always been open about his standing on cannabis legalization. As a passionate fighter for social justice, the rapper, producer, and businessman became a chief brand strategist for Caliva after becoming their partner in 2019. This partnership motivated JAY-Z to take things to the next level by starting his very first cannabis brand called — Monogram.
The rapper believes that Monogram will help improve cultivation practices and redefine how regular consumers view cannabis today. According to the brand’s website, JAY-Z managed to assemble a group of cannabis experts to evaluate and handpick each flower used.
What’s more, Monogram plans to launch a state-of-the-art e-commerce platform specifically designed for its unique product line.
Being a musician, JAY-Z decided to promote his brand through a Tidal playlist called “Monogram: Sounds From The Grow Room,“ which includes songs from Peter Tosh, Outkast, Cypress Hill, Bob Marley, and Amy Winehouse.
That said, we still don’t know what the brand’s M.O. is and what we can expect from JAY-Z and Monogram. The website provides only a sneak peek into the brand without giving any relevant information about the product. For example, we still don’t know whether it will be available in all US states or only in the sunny state of California; where the product will be sold; what the price will be, etc.
JAY-Z is not the first rapper that started their own cannabis brand. In fact, in 2015, Snoop Dogg launched his own personal brand called Leafs By Snoop. B-Real from Cypress Hill quickly followed suit and opened his own dispensary in 2018, conveniently called Dr. Greenthumb’s (as a tribute to the old Cypress Hill song of the same name).
